Have a question about selling at the market?
Our online assistant answers questions about products, permits, fees, and how to apply — straight from the rulebook.

Who can sell

Do I qualify to sell at the market?

You must live within, or produce your goods in, one of these counties: Williamson, Bell, Milam, Lee, Bastrop, Travis, or Burnet. You must personally grow, make, or create everything you sell.

Can I resell things I bought from someone else?

No. Reselling is strictly prohibited, including repackaging wholesale items. However, infusing, blending, or otherwise transforming ingredients into a new product counts as a value-added product and is allowed.

I own a brick-and-mortar shop. Can I still apply?

No — HSFM does not accept vendors who operate a brick-and-mortar business. If you open a storefront after joining, you may finish the current quarter and then must leave. Former members who open a storefront may return as Guest Vendors at special events only.

Vendor categories

There are five categories:

  • Agricultural — vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, honey, nursery plants, cut flowers.
  • Value-Added — jams, baked goods, dried herbs, infused oils, salves, teas (cottage food).
  • Prepared Food — ready-to-eat food and drinks sold on-site.
  • Artisan — handmade jewelry, candles, soaps, ceramics, fiber arts.
  • Guest / Special Event — attend special markets only (max 12 per year).
Is there a limit on how many vendors sell the same thing?

Yes. If two vendors already sell the same items, you may be placed on the waitlist — there's no exclusivity guarantee. Fruit and vegetable vendors are not subject to duplication limits, and the board works to keep a balance across categories.

Do cottage food vendors need a county health permit?

No. Under Texas Cottage Food Law (SB 541, effective Sept 1, 2025), local health departments may not require permits from cottage food producers. You still need a Food Handler's Card and must follow state labeling rules.

Can I sell shaved ice?

Attendance

How often do I need to attend?

At minimum, twice per month (Weekly tier). Each tier has its own requirement (see Fees). Notify the Market Manager of any absence via the Vendor Absence form by Wednesday 5pm before that Saturday's market.

What if I miss markets?

Missing three consecutive markets without notifying the manager may place you on Inactive Status and can end your membership. Repeated last-minute cancellations can cost you your reserved space or membership.

Applying

How do I apply?

Submit the online application in full, including copies of all required permits and licenses. Incomplete applications won't be reviewed. The Steering Committee reviews and votes on every application, and a member will contact you after the vote. All decisions are final.

Who decides whether I'm approved?

The full Steering Committee reviews and votes. You'll be notified after the official vote.

After you're approved

What happens once I'm approved?

New vendors begin on a one-month probationary period (weekly basis). If the board is satisfied after that month, you're approved for the rest of the year. Before your first market you must sign both the Participation Agreement and the Indemnity Agreement. Fees paid during probation roll into your chosen tier.

Can I add new products later?

Yes, but any item not on your original application must be submitted in writing by email for board approval before you can sell it.

Booth basics

  • Each vendor gets one 10' × 10' space. Set-up is 8:30–9:45 a.m.; be customer-ready by 9:45.
  • Bring your own tables, chairs, tent, and signage. Tents need 30 lb weights on each leg.
  • Don't assume electricity is available unless the city confirms it.
  • Don't break down before the market ends, even if you sell out.
  • Keep your booth clean; remove your own trash at teardown.
Based on the HSFM Rules & Regulations (read the full rulebook). Verify permit requirements with WCCHD (512-248-7620) before applying.
